Day 1: 15th January 2009

Arrived @ Changi Airport @ about 510am~a bit stony at that time haha..met Kawei and Sharon we made our way to the check-in counter~ haha..all of us very stony at the wee hours but in our hearts aha..we are hoping to have a great time in Vietnam!

~KW sleeping~

~yagiza & sharon~

caught this while on the plane

birds eye view of vietnam--> looking forward as we are about to land~

the airport looks very new..i find it to be even better than taipei's airport haha..heard later from jason it was built like 2 yrs ago..

and to our surprise, jason was waiting for us with beautiful roses at the arrival hall..thanks for the warm welcome..we definitely feel like stars hehe!He arrived along with the driver in a Mercedes van..great feeling indeed heh!

everywhere also motorbikes..EVERYWHERE i tell u!
busy finding our way out haha!

Ben Thanh Market

makan time!very hungry..settled our lunch @ Pho24 as recommended by Jason, located near Ha Hien Hotel and Ben Thanh Market.the soup base is sweet, the noodles is wonderful..totally heart it..and the interesting way of making coffee intrigues us~

Ben Thanh Market Highlights~went shopping on the 1st day..sharon bought a few things..at that time..she's still considered a novice in bargaining..but as time goes by..she manages to pick up some skills after me and kw tell her..MUS BARGAIN HARD!!heheheh..

Toilet @ Ben Thanh market..according to sharon, the toilet situation seem to have improved tremendously..she went there 4 yrs ago i tink..den she say the toilet condition was very bad! i think hcm has undergone much transformation to become a modern city..probably bad toilet conditions are still observed in less developed parts of Vietnam which we have yet to see the real pic!

coffee beans everywhere! super fragrant~

Taxis on the road

Money exchanging in jewellery shop is the norm..

something interesting in our hotel is that it has everyday-mats in its elevator~

thereafter, we met jason @ ard 130pm..and started our city tour..going to different scenic and prominient landmarks in HCM..
a)Tianhou Temple

b)Some other Chinese Temples

Caught sight of this sports centre along our way..

C)Binh Tay Market
we then made our way to the wholesale crazy crazy market(as quoted by Jason) called Binh Tay Market..as it;s nearing CNY, people buy a lot of food to go back to their village to sell or to buy as new year goodies..the crowd is awesome..we were definitely sandwiched!not by motorbikes this time..but by the sheer number of people!

sharon bought this dried kiwi...i didnt taste it..but acc to her..she say is very nice!

look at the bundle of cables..goodness..is a hazard as we saw these bundles everywhere in HCM..

d)our next stop is HCM City Museum..showcases a series of historical events, wartimes, culture, marriage customs in Vietnam..pretty interesting with its exhibitions and descriptions..simple people but with the never-to-die attitude..

sunny day was greeted with a wonderful, sweet, refreshing dragonfruit!it was yummilicious..we were so glad to have such great fruits to enjoy in HCM haha..in sg so far the dragonfruit i taste are rather bland..but in vietnam..the dragon fruit is totally different..very sweet and juicy..we like!

next stop..we move on to Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office..2 very famous landmarks in HCM for some phototaking...

we also went to this place seen in the following pic..i think is the Reunification Palace if im not wrong hehe..

After that, we took the Thu Thiem Ferry to the other pier to watch Sunset across the Saigon River..it was a spectacular view..we were fortunate enough to catch the sunset in time~within 10mins, the sun sets down quickly..

after the sun set, we went to the 5 star hotel Hotel Majestic for some phototaking..it's indeed grand..USD200/night..super high class..u get to have the sea view i tink..

is makan time!..we had dinner @ Thanh Binh Restaurant as recommended..the food is not bad..spring rolls are very nice..got ourselves each a coconut drink that is totally refereshing..kinda tired and sleepy after dinner haha..but the highlight is yet to come...

Water Puppet Show is a unique characteristic of Vietnam..u gotta see this show if you are in Vietnam..We find it interesting and amusing though we dun understand Vietnamese and they dun haf english translators to explain the story..but it was an eye-opening experience indeed!

after puppet show..we are totally KO..till then..the next day..our adventure going to Cu Chi Tunnels and My Tho Islands!Stay Tuned.. =)
